NY Driver's License

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Complete a state-approved Pre-licensing Course
  • Pass written test and road test
  • Pass vision test
  • Complete 50 hours of supervised driving (including 15 hours at night)

  • Birth Certificate or Passport
  • New York State Residency Proof (2 documents)
  • Learner Permit (if applicable)
  • Pre-licensing Course Certificate
  • Driver Education Certificate (if completed)

Process

  1. Schedule an appointment at your local DMV
  2. Complete the Application for Driver License (Form MV-44)
  3. Provide required identification documents
  4. Pay the required fees
  5. Take the written test
  6. Complete supervised driving requirements
  7. Pass the road test
